ID : 79878
« back to classes page
This course will investigate the realm of science fiction thru various themes as found in religion in general. Through novels, short stories, TV series and movies we will deal with possible alternative views or themes such as: What kinds of religion might develop on other planets not related to Earth? Or what religion, if any, might Earth carry into space colonies? The theme of artificial intelligence and the Turing test, ie, what makes a being sentient, will be discussed. What is a messiah and what would be needed in a culture to produce one? We will also deal with themes about the end of the world, or even the universe. Note that this class will be 2.5 hours as it is needed to deal with the many film clips and discussions. A bibliography will be distributed at the first class meeting.
