From Picasso to Hockney, dogs and cats have served as muses to artists, and figure prominently in their work. They are easy and fun to draw which makes them ideal models for the creative process. From a simple logo to complex images that display fur, texture and anatomy, this six-week course will cover every aspect of illustrating dogs and cats. Quick pencil sketches, caricatures, cartoons, storyboarding, turnarounds and sequential artwork will help the student find their unique style, method and medium. Another session will have trained canine models for sketching. Throughout the course, the student will create and maintain a reference portfolio. During one session, a photo studio session will be set up to demonstrate how to photograph, illuminate and pose dogs for illustration and reference. By the end of the course, the student will have created a small multimedia portfolio and feel confident about approaching any artwork that includes four-legged creatures. Note: Instructor will provide a materials list at the first class. Approximate cost of materials is $35.
