Many countries of the world are observing the Centenary of the First World War (1914-1918). Erich Marie Remarque, a German verteran of that war, wrote a novel that was published in 1929, All Quiet on the Western Front. A movie based on the book came out in 1930. The class will talk about the major questions that should be discussed during this centenary period and about the importance of revisiting Remarque's materpiece, one of the great war novels of all time. A DVD covering the impact of this novel from the Discovery Channel's series, Great Books, will also be shown.
