Working with Adolescents: Treatment and Prevention

Discuss the differences between adolescent and adult substance use/abuse, and review evidence-based approaches for working with adolescents. Relationships with parenting style and parental substance abuse are considered. Treatment methods considered are family therapies, multisystemic therapy, and adolescent CRA (ACRA). Additionally, a program for working with family members to engage resistant teens into treatment will be introduced: community reinforcement and family training CRAFT. A 'what works' review is included, examining the evidence base for various approaches to prevention.
