Gospel: Black Folk Music

This workshop is a college level, survey course at the intersection of folk music and Black Americana condensed into two hours. In this lecture performance will discuss the characteristics of folk music and Black people. The poetry and the rhythm of song along with a hint of ethnomusicology will be be our muse. Genres of music endemic to Black culture (i.e. Gospel, Blues, Rock n’ Roll, Jazz and Hip Hop) will be covered as we discover the answer to the question, “What exactly is Black Folk Music.” Participants should come ready to sing and learn and clap and stomp their feet.
