« back to classes page
Established religious churches and denominations continue to slow in their world-wide growth. However, new religious movements and the category of the "spiritual but not religious" continue to flourish. A growing number of survey respondents deny religious identity even while attesting to personal religious belief and practice. This lecture will further explore these global trends, examining the categories of "eclectic personal religion," as well as "alternative spiritualities." It will also present some data, predictions and analysis concerning the rejection of organized and established religious identities in favor of new religious movements and personal spiritualities alike, addressing the causes of these trends and why they are continuing.
