« back to classes page
In the 4th century, the Roman Empire regained stability after the turmoil of the mid-3rd century. It prospered economically and became an officially Christian state, then, in the 5th century it split into two distinct parts, one of which fell to outside enemies while the other lasted for another thousand years. We will trace these events from the rise of Constantine to the fall of the western half of the empire in their social, political, and economic context.
