Will the Alt-Right Continue to be a Major Player in Republican Party Politics?

« back to classes page
Since the 1960’s the GOP’s electoral success has been based on the “Southern Strategy,” the cultivation of support from those most resistant to black civil rights and cultural diversity in states of the former Confederacy. By the 2016 election this strategy bore fruit in the emergence of the Alt-Right as the key constituency of the Trump presidency. Will the Alt-Right continue to be the King makers in the GOP or will the party heed the advice of many GOP stalwarts like Jennifer Rubin and cast the Alt-Right aside and form a new party (the Appomattox Republicans) to re-claim their roots as the Party of Lincoln.
