ID : 83667
« back to classes page
"Candide" and Voltaire's satirical questioning of optimism therein provide a compelling example of literature as "equipment for living." In class we will identify and discuss the issues surrounding the notion that this is the best of all possible worlds, the arguments pro and con, and think through our own convictions in a culminating position paper, grounded in the book, and the protagonist's education in the matter.
