Why Noah’s Flood Can’t Explain the Grand Canyon

« back to classes page
According to polls, over 40% of the American public believe that the Earth is 6000 years old and that all of the Grand Canyon’s sedimentary rock layers formed in the one year of Noah’s flood. We’ll compare the Young Earth Creationist’s position of “flood geology” with the mainstream science of geology by discussing how they differ in philosophy and the scientific method. We’ll cover the history of geology, including all of its fundamental principles; the basic rock types; sedimentary rocks and their features; relative dating, absolute dating, and missing time; plate tectonics and structural geology;  fossils – what they are and what they tell us and how and when the Grand Canyon was carved. For each of these subjects, a flood geology interpretation will be compared with a modern geology interpretation. This is not a religious or philosophy class.
