Bars of New Mexico

Saloons, pubs and taverns have played a major role in shaping the United States. Always inventive in time of need, men could lift a glass without benefit of a building. A wooden plank across two flour barrels served well. When a town was started, the first “building” to be erected was a tent saloon. But there is more—lots more—to saloons and drinking establishment than the proprietors, patrons, “working girls,” and brew. And that is the bar itself. This wooden beauty anchors a room with its splendor, with the shining back bar towering over the bartender and the stable hardwood counter of the front bar. I’ll talk about bars in New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona, along with vivid photos in my power point presentation.
