From the religious to the secular, Christmas has been inspiration for artists of all ages. In celebration of the season, this talk shall look at the holiday through two very different viewpoints. The secular joy of Christmas in Vienna, circa 1900, was captured by the children artists studying under Franz Chizek. His method of teaching children revolutionized the instruction of art, and their creations rival those of the most gifted adults. The image of the nativity was inspiration for the artist Sandro Botticelli in the 1400s. His masterfully reverent paintings reflect a mystical nativity revealed beautifully through his lyrical style of painting.
