The Afghan conflict is America’s longest war.  The Taliban still controls or contests for about forty percent of the country and regularly conducts massive bombing attacks in the capital, Kabul.  Most challenging, the Taliban finds sanctuary, training and material support from Pakistan’s intelligence service, the ISI. This war has existed through three presidential administrations. Does President Trump or anyone on his team have a clue how to bring this war to an end?  Recommended reading: Directorate S: The C.I.A. and America’s Secret Wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan by Steve Coll.
