Waves of Global Change: A Holistic World History

« back to classes page
Do you think of world history as an endless list of names, facts, and events, each separate and unconnected? This workshop suggests a different approach! This “big picture,” holistic approach helps to simplify the subject into an accessible model that everyone can easily grasp. The overarching development of humans is organized into five major transformations called waves. The waves—communal, agricultural, urban, modern, and global—are critical turning points that mark significant patterns of change in the historical process. Each wave is holistic, meaning that all the cultural characteristics in the wave interact and reinforce each other. During the class, we will identify valuable lessons from the past that help us make sense of the troubling events today.
