« back to classes page
Singer, songwriter, Neil Young said, “The sixties was one of the first times the power of music was used by a generation to bind them together.” The 1960s saw an incredible upheaval in pop music not experienced in any previous decade. The lyrics of these songs spoke to profound historical and cultural turmoil and have held endless intrigue for generations of listeners. Many of the songwriters were poets first; their work was rich in metaphors, similes and analogies that bear examination. The decade that gave us the innocence of Elvis, Johnny Mathis, the Beach Boys and The Cascades closed with the “shocking” musical ‘Hair,' the revolutionary songs of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Simon & Garfunkel, The Doors and many more. Come explore the decade that brought us many a “Strange Brew.”
