Solar Goddesses: Bringers of Light

« back to classes page
In the depths of winter, the solar goddesses bring light and the promise of spring.  Did you know that one of the origins of Santa Claus with his sleigh and reindeer is probably the Northern European Reindeer Goddess who rode across the night sky on her reindeer at the winter solstice to bring back the light of the sun to the world?  This class will explore some of the personifications or archetypes of the Solar Goddesses who were known and revered for centuries.  Full of Life and Love, these early sun goddesses were probably the daughters of the Great Mother Goddess, nourisher of all life who ruled over a large part of the pre-historic and early historic worlds.  We will see what may remain of them in the world today – especially among some indigenous peoples - and look at what role they may play in the human unconscious.
