« back to classes page
Long after it was decommissioned in 1985, the revival of Route 66 continues as a draw for tourists and a boon for businesses. 16 countries have clubs dedicated to Route 66 and the resurrection  has resulted in an explosion of artistic, over-sized, road-themes, wall murals that, in the past, appeared as advertisements on the sides of barns, an early billboard, if you will and a canvas for artists. In the 8 states and over 200 towns that utilized the “Mother Road” these modern murals are now painted as a tribute to the road culture of Rt. 66 and their communities’ heritage of inclusion. They are fast becoming tomorrow’s icons. Join 66 historians, Craig and Ned, for a highlighted tour of these images and the masters that created them.
