The leaders of the Anglo-American alliance which, with the USSR, defeated the Nazis are sharply criticized in Alexander Groth’s 2011 book, Accomplices: Churchill, Roosevelt and the Holocaust. Groth writes, “Only two nations possessed the information, resources and opportunity to challenge Hitler’s ongoing murders. They were Great Britain and the United States, and the moral duty to act fell upon their powerful leaders.” Groth asserts that, these leaders, rather than acting effectively: (1) refused to speak publicly against the Nazi extermination of the Jews; (2) refused to commit even one soldier, one plane or one warship to any forcible opposition to the “Final Solution”; and (3) obstructed Jewish escape from Hitler’s Europe. Groth's claims will be evaluated by detailing and scrutinizing his and other evidence, and viewing and critiquing the PBS movie America and the Holocaust: Deceit and Indifference.
