Take a journey into a dark chapter of American history. What was behind the largest single forced relocation of a people in American history? What was living in the camps like? Why was there a camp in Santa Fe? What were the long-term consequences of the program? This course explores these and other questions and concludes with a film, “The Cats of Mirikitani”, which examines the life experiences of one former internee.
“We're here because we happen to be Japs.
We all love life, and our country best,
Our misfortune to be here in the west,
To keep us penned behind that DAMNED FENCE,
Is someone's notion of NATIONAL DEFENCE!”
