« back to classes page
Comics, a realm historically relegated to realm of kids and junk reading, have in the recent past become recognized as a legitimate form of expression about a number of issues, from personal to societal. Using the work of early comic pioneers, who enthralled the world in newspaper strips, to the newest work of graphic novelists depicting a wide range of issues, I will examine, and invite discussion on, the power of the relationship between image and word. Through examining the purpose, effects and craft of specific comics, we will better understand this growing art form and its abilities. At the end, we will turn to making our own comics.
